Marshal Bass Law

The knowledge of the history of the “Old West” of America.   For most Americans, it’s not from factual books but movies and TV shows, that minimize or in most cases give false information on the roles of African Americans and Native Americans in the “Old West” development.  Many colorful and heroic characters and their stories have never been told and are alien to the general public.  One such character is Bass Reeves, a US Marshal who served in the late 1800s.   He is legendary and is well known to “Old West” historians, among his many accomplishments, was bringing over 3000 men to justice, speaking five Native American languages, being one of the fastest draws in the West with either hand, an expert marksman with a rifle the list goes on and on.

So you are probably asking yourself, why haven’t you heard of this man?   The answer is,  you probably have.  Rooster Colbern “True Grit”, “Hang’em High” and let’s not forget the biggest rip-off of them all, “The Lone Ranger”.  All of these fictitious characters draw some from Bass Reeves’s real-life story, well except for one thing, a black face.

Sterling's adaption of Bass Reeves’s life in “Marshal Bass Law” centers around the beginning of his US Marshal career.  It should be noted that it would be impossible to contain his entire remarkable life in one script, because long before Bass Reeves was a US Marshal,  he was an escaped slave, a scout for soldiers and other Marshals, all this was before he was a farming family man, father of 10 head of children, only after all this did he become a  US Marshal.
